01/Aug/2007

In order to investigate the efficiency of sulfate green rust (GR2) to remove Ni from solution, GR2 samples were synthesized under controlled laboratory conditions. Some GR2 samples were synthesized from Fe(II) and Fe(III) sulfate salts by precipitation. Other samples were prepared by coprecipitation, of Ni(II), Fe(II) and Fe(III) sulfate salts, i.e., in the presence of Ni. In another sample, Ni(II) sulfate salt was added to pre-formed GR2. After an initial X-ray diffraction (XRD) characterization all samples were exposed to ambient […]

Changes in soil mineralogical properties in humid subtropical regions due to potassic fertilizer practices are so far poorly understood. The main objective of this study was to compare the changes in soil minerals and the consequences on K+ release. Soil samples (depth of 0-10 cm) were collected over eleven years from areas with and without K fertilization and from a nearby natural grassy vegetation site on the Campus of the Federal University of Santa Maria. The K fertilizer treatments were 0 kg ha-1 year-1 […]

Mineralogic transformations along profiles of pedogenetic alteration in the region of Lavras (MG)

M. P. C. Lacerda, H. Andrade, J. J. G. Quéméneur

01/Dec/2001

This work aimed to evaluate mineralogic transformations along pedogenetic alterations of soil profiles in the region of Lavras; Minas Gerais, Brazil, differentiated by acid, intermediate and basic geochemical composition of the parent material. Three profiles were selected: Profile 1 – Hapludult developed from granitic rocks (Granite from Itutinga); Profile 2 – Rhodudalf formed from dioritic rocks (Diorite from Rosário); and Profile 3 – Argiudoll formed from basic rocks of the Greenstone-Belt of Lavras. Along each soil profile, from the consolidated […]

Iron oxides in plinthic soils on sedimentary deposits in northeastern Brazil

R. J. Heck, A. R. Mermut, M. C. Santos

01/Sep/1999

This study was conducted to examine the distribution and nature of Fe oxides in plinthic soils on the sediments of Barreiras Group (in the state of Piauí) and Itapecuru Formation (in the state of Maranhão) in Northeastern Brazil. Four pedons were selected: a “plinthic, dystrophic, epieutrophic Gray Podzolic with low activity clay” and a “dystrophic Plinthosol with low activity clay” (both Plinthic Kandiustalfs) on the Barreiras sediments, as well as an “eutrophic Plinthosol with low activity clay” and an “allic […]
