Suitability for reforestation of the canal do Cunha and canal do Mangue watersheds, state of Rio de Janeiro
01/Jun/2005
The suitability for reforestation of parts of the North Slope of the Tijuca neighborhood not covered by buildings, the Mangue and Cunha watersheds, was studied. The plan was to subsidize the “Mutirão” Reforestation Program of the Environmental Department of Rio de Janeiro Municipality. Nutrient deficiency, water deficiency, erosion susceptibility and management impediments were considered in the evaluation of land suitability. The limitation degrees were evaluated for the components of soil survey units, considering soil and landscape information from the available […]
Spatial and temporal-time analysis of land use in part of the semi-arid region of Ceará State, Brazil
01/Apr/2004
The vegetation cover plays a key role in protection and conservation of natural resources, particularly concerning soils. This study had as objective to analyze space and time dimensions of anthropic influence on the vegetation cover in part of the semi-arid region of the Ceará State, Brazil. LANDSAT TM-5 satellite images of 1985 and 1994 combined with geoprocessing techniques were used to verify the hypothesis of intensification of environmental degradation. Maps of the vegetation cover, land use, soils, and hydrography were […]
Soil fertility dynamics in the Amazon in former forest areas converted to pasture
01/Dec/2002
In the State of Rondônia, Brazil, soil characteristics of forest and converted pasture areas were compared (four age classes). Adjacent areas of undisturbed natural forest were also surveyed for comparison. Based on the analysis of TM/LANDSAT images obtained between 1987 and 1997, three sites were selected for soil sampling. Two of these sites belong to the class “Argissolo Vermelho-Amarelo” (PVA – Ultisol), and the other to the “Luvissolo Crômico” (TC – Alfisol). The soil samples were collected at a depth […]
Utilization of a geographic information system on land use evaluation in Botucatu (SP)
01/Sep/2001
The GIS-IDRISI was used to check land use adequacy from 1997 to 1998, in the initial part of the Rio Pardo basin, in Botucatu/Pardinho (SP), to obtain a suitable land use planning of the area. The classes and subclasses of land capability were determined according to the Land Capability Classification System. The lands of the studied area were classified as: class VIe, lands with erosion susceptibility (90.49%); class Va, flat lands, with no erosion risk, but limited by excess of […]
Effects of weed control on physical and micropedological properties of a brazilian ultisol
01/Dec/1998
In the tropical soil environment, raindrop impact is capable of disrupting natural soil aggregation and porosity, thus influencing the amount of infiltrated water and its redistribution. Under such conditions, a vegetation cover of weeds cannot be viewed simply as a crop competitor. This research project was designed to examine, under field conditions, the changes of soil properties, namely soil water content, structure and sealing, resulting from different types of weed management, with the aim of contributing to the establishment of […]
