Soil water retention and s index after crop rotation and chiseling
01/Dec/2011
Soil compaction can be minimized either mechanically or biologically, using plant species with vigorous root systems. An experiment was carried out with soybean (Glycine max) in rotation with triticale (X Triticosecale) and sunflower (Helianthus annuus) in fall-winter associated with pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum), grain sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) or sunn hemp (Crotalaria juncea) in spring. Crop rotation under no-till was compared with mechanical chiseling. The experiment was carried out in Botucatu, São Paulo State, Brazil. Soil quality was estimated using the […]
Soil nitrogen stock and availability in a long-term experiment
01/Apr/2009
Nitrogen is the nutrient required in the largest quantity by plants and is generally the most limiting nutrient for crop yield. The objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of cropping systems on N accumulation and availability in the soil. A long-term experiment (22 years) was conducted on a Paleudult soil at an experimental station of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (30 º 50 ‘ 52 ” S and 51 º 38 ‘ 08 ” W), in Eldorado do Sul, Brazil, established in 1983. The experiment consisted […]
Aggregate stability as affected by cropping systems and soil characteristics
01/Jun/1998
This research was carried out in Rio Grande do Sul State, Southern Brazil, during the 1990/1991 summer harvest. The main objective was to evaluate the aggregation and aggregate stability of two clayey soils classified as Dusky Latosol (Haplorthox) and Dark-Red Podzolic (Paleoudult). Two treatments were used in the Haplorthox: grass (Setaria anceps L.); and crop rotation under conventional tillage (wheat (Triticum aestivum) soybean (Glycine max L.)). On the other hand, four treatments were used in the Paleoudult: grass (Digitaria decumbens […]
