ABSTRACT: Knowledge of soils in the Amazon rainforest is becoming increasingly essential due to dynamics adopted by farmers that substitute forest for pastures, together with growing pressure from diverse segments of society towards adoption of sustainable production systems. The objective of this study was to characterize the soils along two toposequences, one under forest (F) and the other under pasture (P), and to verify how the change in land use influences soil attributes, evaluating their inclusion in the Brazilian Soil […]

Mineralogy and genesis of argisols (ultisols) from Serra do Tabuleiro/Itajaí, Santa Catarina state, Brazil

01/Aug/2012

The crystalline shield rocks that outcrop in the central-east and north-east of the state of Santa Catarina lie in a strong and wavy relief characterizing the northern Santa Catarina Coastal Mountains. The irregular surface results from the magmatic metamorphic cycles of the crust, responsible for the reworking of ancient rocks formed from the Archean to the Proterozoic. This compartment consists of metamorphic rocks while information about genesis and mineralogical composition of the soils derived from it are scarce, motivating this […]

Pedogeochemical in alteration profiles in the region of Lavras, Minas Gerais. I- major elements – main oxides

M. P. C. Lacerda, H. Andrade, J. J. G. Quéméneur

01/Mar/2002

The geochemical behavior in soil alteration profiles in Lavras (MG), Brazil, was evaluated during the process of soil formation leading to the formation of argillic horizons, in parent material ranging from acid, intermediate to mafic geochemical composition.Along each profile, from the consolidated bedrock to the solum, geochemical analyses of major elements-main oxides were performed, calculating the gains and losses through a mass chemical balance. The results showed a moderate loss of SiO2, bases leaching, and a slight relative enrichment of Al, […]

Irrigation and cropping influence on the properties of an oxisol and a ultisol in the region of the low-medium São Francisco river basin: morphological and physical properties

E. E. F. Santos, M. R. Ribeiro

01/Dec/2000

The effects of irrigation and cropping on the properties of soils were studied in the region of the low-medium São Francisco river basin. Six sites were selected, three of them involving Oxisols collected at the Senador Nilo Coelho Project, in Casa Nova, BA, while the remaining three involved Ultisols collected at the Curaçá Irrigation Perimeter in Juazeiro, BA. The selected sites involved non irrigated and irrigated land, different crops and irrigation methods. The soils were morphologically characterized and samples were […]
