Ammonia volatilization following soil application of conventional urea or urea with urease inhibitor
01/Apr/2011
Ammonia volatilization is an important process of N loss which decreases the use efficiency of N by plants when urea is applied on the soil surface. To overcome this problem, some chemical compounds were mixed with urea to inhibit the urease action. The purpose of this study was to compare applications of an alternative fertilizer with urease inhibitor to reduce ammonia volatilization with conventional urea, under certain environmental and soil conditions. Four experiments were carried out in 2007 and 2008, […]
Ammonium and nitrate seasonal and daily fluctuation in a Typical Red Dysthropic Argisol
01/Aug/2008
Ammonium and nitrate ions from soil organic N mineralization are the predominant N mineral forms available to plants. The ion ratio and distribution along the soil profile show daily fluctuations and oscillate seasonally. NH4+ and NO3– soil content were evaluated in two adjacent plots, one of them farmed continuously with barley, soybean and barley in a no-tillage system for more than 10 years, with pH 6.0 and fertilized with P and K. A second plot was maintained undisturbed, with native […]
Nutrient accumulation in coffee fruits at two at two plantation altitudes: micronutrients
01/Dec/2007
In view of the importance of knowing fruit micronutrients export from the soil, and the season in which its coffee-plant demand is higher, the accumulation of B, Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn in fruits as well as the variation in the leaf content of the elements in productive branches of Arabic coffee was studied. The trial was performed in the period between anthesis and maturation at two altitudes. The experiment consisted of the coffee (Coffea arabica L.) variety Catuaí IAC […]
Nutrient accumulation in coffee fruits at four plantations altitude: calcium, magnesium and sulfur
01/Dec/2007
Crurves of fruit nutrient accumulation are tools for estimating the peaks of nutrient demand and the nutrient export form the soil. The accumulation of dry matter (DM), Ca, Mg and S was studied in fruits of Coffea arabica (L.) in the period between anthesis and maturation at four altitudes of cultivation, as well as the variation in the leaf content of the elements in productive branches. The experiment consisted of the coffee variety Catuaí IAC 44 cultivated at 720, 800, 880 […]
Initial screening and partial characterization of rhizobia from a brazilian coastal tableland when associated to pigeonpea
01/Jun/2000
The aim of this study was to select and partially characterize efficient nitrogen-fixing rhizobia associated to pigeonpea from coastal tableland areas in the Northeast of Brazil. Sixteen rhizobia from different coastal tableland areas were evaluated under greenhouse condition, at the Embrapa Coastal Tablelands (Aracaju, Sergipe, Brazil). Four isolates performed better than the others in relation to shoot N content (NC), shoot dry weight (SDW), leaf area (LA) and nodule dry weight (NDW). NDW showed high correlation with SDW, LA and […]
