Growth, dry mass partitioning, and Na+, K+, and Cl– retention by two sorghum genotypes irrigated with saline water
01/Oct/2007
The mechanisms for salt tolerance are complex and depend upon physiological and anatomical changes occurring in the whole-plant. This research aimed at evaluating ion retention, vegetative growth, and dry matter partitioning by two forage sorghum genotypes [Sorghum Bicolor (L.) Moench] irrigated with saline water. Selected seeds were sown in plastic pots containing 12 kg a sandy Argisol and grown under greenhouse conditions. The experiment was in completely randomized with treatments arranged in a 2 x 5 factorial design, consisting of […]
Calcium effects on growth and solute contents of sorghum seedlings under NaCl stress
01/Apr/2004
Increased Ca2+ concentrations in the root environment have been suggested to minimize salinity effects on plant growth. In this work, seedlings of two forage sorghum genotypes (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench), one salt tolerant (CSF 20) and the other salt sensitive (CSF 18), were exposed to two Na+ (0 and 75 mmol L-1) and two Ca2+ (0.65 and 2.60 mmol L-1) levels in nutrient solution, in a 2 x 2 x 2 factorial design. After seven days of salt treatment, the shoot and root dry matter as well as Cl–, Na+, […]
Influence of sorghum seed pelleting with lime and with thermophosphate on phosphorus and potassium absorption
01/Sep/2000
The aim of this work was to evaluate the influence of seed pelleting with lime and with ‘Magnesian Thermophosphate’ on ionic absorption of three sorghum genotypes (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench), cv BRS 701, BRS 304 e BRS 601. Pelletized and non-pelletized seeds were germinated during eight days at room temperature. After this period, eight plants with uniform root and shoot development, from each treatment, were transferred to a Hoagland solution. Phosphorus and potassium absorption parameters were determined after 20 days. […]
