Macroporosity and soil particle density evaluation using x-ray microtomography
01/Dec/1999
Soil Science deals with the understanding and modelling of the phenomena occurring in soils, mainly those related to the non-saturated zone. Since understanding most of those phenomena requires determination of parameters in scales allowing the incorporation of pore and aggregate variability to the models, a microscopic scale X-ray tomograph was built at Embrapa Agriculture Instrumentation. The aim was to generate non-destructive images of soil samples, within at least 100 ∝m spatial resolution. It was possible to design and construct a […]
Persistence of triadimenol in soils
01/Jun/1998
The persistence of the fungicide triadimenol was investigated in two soils, a Red-Yellow Podzolic (Paleoudult) and a Latosol Una Variation (typic Haplortox) from Viçosa, MG, Brazil, with and without the incorporation of organic compost, using the thin-layer bioautograph technique. The triadimenol fungicide was added at a rate of 375 mg kg-1 of active ingredient of soil. The extractions of fungitoxic compounds were made at 35, 70 and 115 days after the addition of fungicide to the soils. The experiment was […]
Water erosion under different tillage systems following corn and wheat harvesting, in the presence and absence of crop residues
01/Sep/1997
A rotating-boom rainfall simulator, operating at a constant rainfall intensity of 64 mm h-1 for sufficient time to runoff reaches steady-rate, was used to investigate water erosion and other related parameters in three tillage systems. The experiments were carried out immediately following corn and wheat harvesting, in a sandy loam Red-Yellow Podzolic soil (Paleudult) with a 0.066 m m-1 average slope, in Eldorado do Sul, State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, from 1992 to 1994. No-tillage, chiselling and disk-plowing […]
