Saturated hydraulic conductivity and steady-state infiltration rate database for Brazilian soils
20/Jan/2025
ABSTRACT Soil saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ksat) and steady-state infiltration rate (SSIR) are essential and necessary soil properties for different geoscience applications. Values of these hydraulic properties for the Brazilian territory are difficult to access and are dispersed in research efforts carried out around the country. This study developed an easy-to-manipulate, freely accessible database of soil saturated hydraulic conductivity, comprising field and laboratory analyses, and steady-state infiltration rates for Brazilian soils. This database was named Ksat-SSIR-DB. One analysis of the Ksat-SSIR-DB […]
Rock size fragments reduction allow including their effect on water retention properties determined with a dew point potentiometer
24/Jun/2021
ABSTRACT The relation between water content and water potential is a key soil hydraulic property. The presence of rock fragments in soils can affect this property in bulk soil. In this study, we focused on the relation property determined with a WP4 dew point potentiometer. The objective was to evaluate the hypothesis that breaking large gravel-size particles into smaller fragments is a suitable strategy for accurate WP4 measurements in coarse materials without affecting the retention properties. Ten initial samples of […]
Pedotransfer functions to predict water retention for soils of the humid tropics: a review
01/Jun/2014
Over the past three decades, pedotransfer functions (PTFs) have been widely used by soil scientists to estimate soils properties in temperate regions in response to the lack of soil data for these regions. Several authors indicated that little effort has been dedicated to the prediction of soil properties in the humid tropics, where the need for soil property information is of even greater priority. The aim of this paper is to provide an up-to-date repository of past and recently published […]
Performance of a tensiometer, TDR and neutron probe for determining soil water and soil hydraulic conductivity
01/Apr/2005
The evaluation of agronomic instrumentation to determine soil water content is very important for scientific research. Regardless of the technique in use, it is important that the soil water content is determined easily and quickly for the determination of the function K(q), e.g. With the objective of comparing the performance of the equipments neutron probe and TDR with a tensiometer at determining variations in the soil water content and the values of soil hydraulic conductivity obtained from the soil water […]
