Geotechnical properties of some kaolinite-rich Brazilian Vertisols
05/Oct/2021
Abstract Vertisols presenting kaolinite codominance or prevalence were already reported in several countries worldwide. However, the literature has few studies focused on investigating the influence of this clay mineral in soil geotechnical behavior. This study aimed to carry out the characterization of Vertisols in Bahia State, Brazil, to understand the influence of physical, chemical, and mineralogical properties on their geotechnical behavior, as these soils have high natural fertility and have been used for agricultural activity, but with great risk due […]
Growth and mineral nutrition of (Gliricidia sepium (Jacq.) Kunth ex Steud) seedlings in nutrient solution under saline stress
01/Oct/2009
Salinity is one of the most limiting factors to plant growth and development. Plant survival in saline environments depends on adaptive processes involving uptake, transport, and distribution of ions in plant organs. To evaluate growth and mineral nutrition of Gliricidia sepium seedlings under saline conditions, an experiment was carried out under nylon-mesh protection, at the Federal University of Campina Grande, in Patos – PB. Seeds were sown in pots containing Hoagland & Arnon nutrient solution with four NaCl levels (0, […]
Rainfall, runoff, and rainfall-runoff erosivity parameters correlated with soil losses of a haplargids, Paraiba state, Brazil
01/Sep/2002
Simple linear, multiple linear and nonlinear correlations between rainfall, runoff and rainfall-runoff erosivity parameters were studied, as well as soil losses caused by erosive rainfall on a Haplargids. Data were obtained in the period from 1986 to 1990 at the Experimental Station in Sumé, which belongs to the Universidade Federal da Paraíba – UFPB, Paraíba State, Brazil. Individual rainfalls registered in 136 rain gauges were analyzed for the determination of rainfall, runoff and rainfall-runoff erosivity parameters. The runoff volume, single […]
Effects of native semiarid vegetation deforestation on soil and water losses of a haplargids in Sumé, Paraíba, Brazil
01/Mar/2001
The effects of native semiarid vegetation deforestation on soil and water losses caused by erosive rainfall in Haplargid were studied. The data covering the period of 1983-1990 were obtained from the Experimental Station of Sumé (Paraíba, from Brazil) of the Universidade Federal da Paraíba (UFPB). The treatments consisted of two deforested runoff plots, two runoff plots with native semiarid vegetation, two deforested watersheds and two watersheds with native semiarid vegetation. The deforested runoff plots, had soil losses of 61.7 and […]
