ABSTRACT Several complications can arise, either directly or indirectly, from implementation of measures to correct soil acidity in established fruit orchards, such as impaired roots, lower root volume, risk of plant infection, propagation of diseases, promotion of pest development (especially nematodes), and soil disaggregation and compaction. These factors can have a negative effect on crop yield. Therefore, it becomes critical to implement an effective method of neutralizing soil acidity, especially at the level of the tree roots. To assess the […]

Agronomic evaluation of application of residue of the guava industry in a guava orchard

Given the scarcity of information in the literature and the importance of a proper management of organic waste in agriculture, this paper evaluated the effects of applying residues of the guava processing industry to an Ultisol, by evaluating changes in soil chemical properties, in the nutritional status of guava plants and fruit production. The residue rates applied in the orchard were established according to the residue N content and evaluated in a randomized block design with four replications, and the […]

The use of guava seedlings with adequate nutritional status determines the success of an orchard installation. This study was conducted to determine plant growth and macronutrient accumulation in herbaceous seedlings of two guava cultivars. The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design in split-plots with three replications. Plots consisted of the two guava cultivars (Paluma and Século XXI) in nutrient solution and the sub-plots were the seven sampling dates in a 120 day period. Plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, […]

Aluminum influence on growth and nutrient accumulation by young guava plants

01/Dec/2000

Young guava plants were grown in a nutrient solution in the presence of 0, 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 mg L-1 aluminum, with pH being kept at 4.0. After 110 days, the plants were harvested and their content of macronutrients, Cu, Fe, Mn, Zn and Al were determined. Visual toxicity symptoms, developed under 20 and 25 mg L-1 aluminum, were as follows: reduction in height, absence of branching, decrease in diameter of stem dark roots and smaller leaves presenting […]
