ABSTRACT Given the increase in crop yields and the expansion of agriculture in low fertility soils, deficiency of micronutrients, such as iron, in plants grown in tropical soils has been observed. The aim of this study was to evaluate Fe availability and Fe uptake by corn (Zea mays L.) plants in 13 different soils, at two depths. Iron was extracted by Mehlich-1, Mehlich-3, and CaCl2 (Fe-CC) and was fractionated in forms related to low (Feo) and high (Fed) crystallinity pedogenic […]

Differential Behavior of Young Eucalyptus Clones in Response to Nitrogen Supply

Eric Victor de Oliveira Ferreira, Roberto Ferreira Novais, Greice Leal Pereira, Nairam Félix de Barros, Ivo Ribeiro da Silva

01/May/2015

Eucalyptus requires large amounts of nitrogen (N); however, it responds in diverse manners to the application of this nutrient. The aim of this study was to evaluate the differential performance in growth, mineral nutrition, and gas exchanges of N-fertilized Eucalyptus clones. The treatments consisted of two Eucalyptus clones (VM-01 and I-144) and six N application rates (0, 0.74, 2.93, 4.39, 5.85, and 8 mmol L-1 NH4NO3) arranged in a randomized complete block design with five replications. VM-01 had greater plant […]

Efficiency of phosphorus uptake and utilization in citrus rootstocks

01/Apr/2012

Citrus rootstocks have a strong influence on shoot mineral nutrition and consequently on the adaptation of citrus trees to adverse soil conditions. Since citrus yield is often limited by low P availability, a greenhouse study was carried out to evaluate the effects of P application in the nutrient solution (0.0125; 0.05; 0.2 and 0.8 mmol L-1) on growth and P nutrition of the citrus rootstocks varieties (‘Rangpur’ lime, ‘Swingle’ citrumelo, ‘Cleopatra’ and ‘Sunki’ mandarin). After 100 days of P treatments, […]

Nutrient distribution and visual symptoms of boron deficiency in roots of green dwarf coconut

01/Dec/2008

Roots are usually the first plant organs where boron deficiency symptoms appear. The experimental evaluation of the effects of mineral deficiencies on the root system of trees is rather difficult. This experiment aimed to evaluate the effect of boron deficiency on the formation of roots with different diameters and on nutrient accumulation and to characterize visual symptoms of B deficiency in roots of green dwarf coconut trees. The following treatments were applied: complete nutrient solution (+B) and nutrient solution without […]

Aluminum effect on the growth of two forest species

01/Dec/2001

An experiment was carried out at the Soil Science Department of Universidade Federal de Lavras, in Lavras (MG). in November 1998, to study the effect of aluminum on the initial growth of two forest species, under greenhouse conditions using a nutrient solution. After two weeks in dilute nutrient solution to 1/3 and without aluminum, two Moringa (Moringa oleifera) and two Angico (Anandenantha peregrina) plants were transplanted to 1.5 L pots, and grown in nutrient solution. The aluminum levels were 0.0, […]

01/Dec/2001

The evaluation and classification of soybean cultivars, based on their tolerance to deficient or excessive boron levels, may be relevant when recommending fertilizers and amendments, and for plant breeding programs. This research aimed to study the response of four soybean cultivars to doses of B added to the nutrient solutions. The experiment was carried out under greenhouse conditions, at the experimental station of Instituto Agronômico, Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil in 1998. The soybean cultivars IAC-1, IAC-8, IAC-15 e IAC-17 were […]

Influence of sorghum seed pelleting with lime and with thermophosphate on phosphorus and potassium absorption

01/Sep/2000

The aim of this work was to evaluate the influence of seed pelleting with lime and with ‘Magnesian Thermophosphate’ on ionic absorption of three sorghum genotypes (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench), cv BRS 701, BRS 304 e BRS 601. Pelletized and non-pelletized seeds were germinated during eight days at room temperature. After this period, eight plants with uniform root and shoot development, from each treatment, were transferred to a Hoagland solution. Phosphorus and potassium absorption parameters were determined after 20 days. […]
