Physical quality of Oxisols under no-tillage in the Savanna region of Piaui
01/Nov/2012
The Cerrado is being increasingly exploited in production systems characterized by intensive land use, without due concern for the preservation of natural resources. The objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of no-tillage soybean on the physical properties of Oxisols. The study was carried out in the region of “Serra do Quilombo”, located in the Cerrado region of the State of Piauí. To assess changes in soil properties caused by agricultural use, soil samples were collected from conventional […]
Variation in pedological characteristics and the taxonomic classification of argissolos (ultisols and alfisols) derived from sedimentary rocks
01/Feb/2012
There is lack of research on Argissolos (Ultisols and Alfisols) in relation to theunderstanding of the pedologic variations. Variations can be analyzed by multivariate statisticsand the data numerically classified. The comparison between the numeric classification andthe hierarchical classification can contribute to the evolution of the Brazilian Soil ClassificationSystem (SiBCS). The aims of this research were to analyze the pedologic variation of Argissolosderived from sedimentary materials in the central region of Rio Grande do Sul and to validatethe organization of the […]
Physical, chemical and biological properties of cerrado soil under different land use and tillage systems
01/Feb/2009
As knowledge on no-till system expands, it has become quite clear that separate chemical indicators cannot provide a detailed soil characterization. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of tillage systems and soil use in the physical, chemical and biological properties of a clayey dystrophic Red Latosol – Oxisol and a sandy Neosol – Entisol. The treatments for the Oxisol consisted of: native savanna, pasture, conventional tillage, no-tillage with turnip and with forage sorghum as cover crop. […]
Humic substances in support of the Brazilian soil classification
01/Oct/2008
The humic substances that compose the soil organic matter participate actively in the pedogenetic soil processes, particularly in the Histic (Histic), Mollic (Chernozemic), Umbric (Humic) and Spodic (Spodic) diagnostic horizons. This study aimed to determine organic C amounts in the soil humic substances and evaluate their applicability for diagnostic horizons recognition. Fifty-six diagnostic soil horizons from different Brazilian regions were used, 52 from surface horizons or epipedons (H histic, A mollic, A proeminent, A humic and A moderate) and four […]
Multivariate analysis of Argisols of the Brazilian Atlantic coast
01/Oct/2008
The Brazilian Atlantic coast have has extreme environmental diversity, where is expressive the occurrence of Argisols, described and identified in several studies, that do not have exhausted the possibilities of interpretations. The objective of this study was to evaluate the main differences in the physical and chemical properties of Argisols of the Brazilian Atlantic coast by multivariate analysis, allowing inferences on their genesis and fertility. For this purpose, 91 soil profiles from the soil survey reports of the Project RADAMBRASIL were analyzed, […]
Divergence of ‘folha murcha’ orange tree rootstocks as influenced by two groundcover crops
01/Apr/2007
Citurs rootstocks are dependent of the growdcover management systems. This study aimed to identify the divergences of seven rootstocks for ‘Folha Murcha’ sweet orange trees in two groundcover management systems on a Paleudult. The study was performed at the IAPAR research station, in Paranavai, northwestern Paraná, Brazil. The experiment was in a complete random block design with threer replications for the bahiagrass (Paspalum notatum Flügge) groundcover treatment and one replication for the perennial groundnut legume (Arachis pintoi Krap. & Greg.). […]
Environmental characteristics determining site capacity for eucalypt production
01/Jun/1999
Fifty eight plots of 480 m2 (20 x 24 m) were established in stands of 5.5 year-old Eucalyptus grandis, growing in Rio Doce Valley – MG, Brazil, in order to study the relationship between growth and site characteristics. The topography of the area is hilly and the soil predominantly Oxisol, originated from granite-gnaiss parent material. A discriminant model with two linear functions was obtained and allowed to correctly classify 86.2% of the plots. The discriminant model obtained showed a holistic […]
