Corn, wheat and soybean yields as a function of the changes in soil chemical characteristics due to surface application of lime and gypsum under a no-tillage system
01/Jun/1999
This experiment was carried out on a dystrophic Dark-Red Latosol from Ponta Grossa, Paraná, Brazil, to evaluate the yield of corn, wheat and soybean as a function of the changes in the chemical characteristics of soil due to surface application of lime and gypsum under a no-tillage system. A completely randomized block design was used, with three replications, in a split-plot experiment. Dolomitic limestone was applied at rates of 0, 2, 4 and 6 t ha-1 (main plots) in July […]
Response of common bean to limestone application in lowland soils of southern Minas Gerais state, Brazil
01/Dec/1998
The experiment was conducted under greenhouse conditions at the Soil Science Department of the Federal University of Lavras, Lavras, from August 1995 to June 1996. The objectives were to evaluate the application of limestone on several chemical properties and on the nutrition and production of common bean cultivated in samples of four lowland soils and to compare the doses established as appropriate according to base saturation and Al and Ca + Mg methods. A 6×4 factorial scheme in a completely […]
Modifications caused by different agricultural uses and formation of compacted and, or, dense layers in a dark red latosol medium texture, in the cerrado region of Brazil
01/Sep/1998
The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of different agricultural uses on alterations in the attributes of a medium-textured Latosol, in the region of cerrado and, in turn, on the formation of compacted and/or dense layers in the subsurface. In April, 1994, six sites were selected in the counties of Uberlândia and Monte Alegre de Minas, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil, where the soil was sampled in trenches: CC (Canadá Farm, cerrado vegetation); CP ( Canadá Farm, […]
Effects of CaSO4/CaCO3 ratios on the movement of nutrients in soil and cotton growth
01/Sep/1998
The experiment was carried out in greenhouse at the Soil Science Departament – Federal University of Lavras, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The objective was to study the effects of different CaSO4/CaCO3 ratios on the movement of nutrients in soil and cotton growth. The treatments consisted of four CaSO4/CaCO3 percentage ratios (100/0, 75/25, 50/50, 25/75 and 0/100), in an equivalent basis. A control treatment, without application of either CaSO4 or CaCO3, was also established. Substantial calcium and sulfate movement downwards was observed […]
Effect of base saturation on phosphatase activities from a coastal tableland soil cultivated with orange tree. II. Kinetic constants
01/Sep/1998
The kinetic constants Kmapp and Vmaxapp of phosphatase activity from a coastal tableland soil grown with orange trees, submitted to different base saturation levels (32.0; 45.0; 64.0 and 76.6%), were determined. These determinations were made in optimum pH values for alkaline and acid phosphatases and in the pH values obtained for each base saturation level. Phosphatase activity has followed Michaelis-Menten kinetics, regardless the soil base saturation levels or pH values used for enzymatic activity evaluation. Increases in the soil bases […]
Increase of grain and green matter of corn by liming
01/Jun/1998
Despite the fact that aluminum toxicity to crops is eliminated near soil water pH of 5.5, lime recommendation in many regions aims to increase soil pH up to 6.0 or even higher. For highly buffered soils, high rates of limestone are required to raise the pH from 5.5 to 6.0, resulting in additional, sometimes unnecessary, costs. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of soil pH on corn yield in a very acid Hapludox. The experiment was […]
Changes in soil chemical characteristics by surface application of lime and gypsum and soybean response in no-tillage system
01/Mar/1998
The experiment was carried out on a dystrophic Dark Red Latosol from Ponta Grossa, Paraná State, Brazil, to evaluate the effects of the surface application of lime and gypsum on soil chemical characteristics and soybean response in no-tillage. A randomized complete block design was used, with three replications, in a split-plot experiment. Dolomitic limestone was applied at rates of 0, 2, 4 and 6 t ha-1 (main plots) in July of 1993; gypsum was applied at rates of 0, 4, […]
Dry matter yield of four alfalfa cultivars grown in a red yellow latosol with liming and potassium fertilization
01/Dec/1997
An experiment was carried out in a greenhouse, with the surface layer of a clayey Red Yellow Latosol placed in plastic pots. A 4x3x4 factorial was used. Lime rates (0; 380; 760 and 1140 mg kg-1 of soil) and potassium rates (0; 40 and 120 mg kg-1 of soil) and alfalfa cultivars (Crioula, Moapa, Florida77 and CUF101) were studied. A randomized complete block design, with four replications, was used. Plants were harvested 70 days after sowing and allowed to regrow. […]
Sewage sludge pelletization and CaCO3 addition on corn growth and Zn, Cu and Ni absorption in three hapludox from Brazil
01/Dec/1997
The effect of sewage sludge pelletization added at rates of 0, 1 and 5% (v/v) of dry material was studied on corn growth and absorption of Zn, Cu and Ni, with or without the addition of CaCO3 to increase soil pH to 6.0. Three Hapludox soil samples from the State of São Paulo, Brazil, “latossolo roxo”, “latossolo vermelho-escuro” e “latossolo vermelho-amarelo” (LR , LE and LV, respectively) were used in a greenhouse experiment conducted in Campinas, State of São Paulo, […]
