Mineralogy of the sand, silt and clay fractions of barreiras group sediments in Aracruz, Espírito Santo state, Brazil
01/Mar/2002
To investigate the mineralogical variations with depth, 11samples were collected down to 14m, in an exposed sediment packet of the Barreiras Group in Aracruz, Espírito Santo, Brazil. The sand, silt and clay fractions were studied by X-ray diffraction, differential thermal analysis, thermogravimetry and electron microscopy. The total contents of Fe in the clay and silt fractions and Ti and Zr in the silt fraction were determined by ICP after fluoridric acid extraction.Clay and silt fractions were submitted to selective and sequential mineral […]
Potassium and magnesium in sand and silt fractions of different soils
01/Jun/2000
The highly weathered soils developed in the humid tropics have low nutrient reserve in the coarse fractions. To evaluate K and Mg total contents in minerals in the sand and silt fractions, soil samples developed from different parent materials and weathering degree from MG, ES, RS and RR states, Brazil, were selected to be analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), differential thermal analysis, thermogravimetry and electron microscopy. The total contents of K and Mg of the whole soil and its fractions […]
Mineralogy of clay fraction and structure of latosols (oxisols) from southeastern Brazil
01/Sep/1999
This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between the mineralogical constituents of clay fraction and the development of micro and macrostructure of Latosols (Oxisols) from southeastern Brazil. For that purpose, samples of oxic horizons were obtained from seven Latosols representative of this group, from Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo states. The different soil samples were submitted to morphological, chemical, physical, mineralogical and micromorphological characterizations. From the different results it was possible to conclude that kaolinite and gibbsite are the main […]
