Irrigation and cropping influence on the properties of an oxisol and a ultisol in the region of the low-medium São Francisco river basin: morphological and physical properties
01/Dec/2000
The effects of irrigation and cropping on the properties of soils were studied in the region of the low-medium São Francisco river basin. Six sites were selected, three of them involving Oxisols collected at the Senador Nilo Coelho Project, in Casa Nova, BA, while the remaining three involved Ultisols collected at the Curaçá Irrigation Perimeter in Juazeiro, BA. The selected sites involved non irrigated and irrigated land, different crops and irrigation methods. The soils were morphologically characterized and samples were […]
Soil properties and root system of irrigated common beans in crop rotation
01/Sep/2000
Root system growth of the common bean, variety IAC-Carioca, under center pivot irrigation in rotation with fallow; corn; black oat; sunn hemp (Crotalaria juncea L.); pigeon pea [Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp.] and velvet bean (Mucuna aterrima) was evaluated during a non-conventional (Autumn – Winter) cultivation period, from 1993 to 1995, on a typic Haplorthox soil, at an experimental area of the Instituto Agronômico, in Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo, Brazil. The crop sequences of common bean with corn and green manure […]
Soil water availability to maize plants cultivated in soils with different textures
01/Mar/1999
The objectives of this experiment were to identify differences in the total quantity of water stored in soil, storing capacity of water available to the plants and in the water consumption of maize plants cultivated in soils of different textures. The experiment was conducted at the experimental area of the Rural Engineering Department of the Federal University of Santa Maria during the 1995/1996 growing season. A set of 12 drainage lysimeters was used. These were 156 cm long, 100 cm wide and 80 cm […]
NH3-N volatilization in corn crop: I- effect of irrigation and partial substitution of urea by ammonium sulphate
01/Sep/1997
A field experiment was carried out on a dark-red latosol (Oxisol) of the Centro de Pesquisas Novartis-Seeds, in Uberlândia, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of irrigation, side-dressed application of urea, and urea partially substituted by ammonium sulphate on losses of NH3-N by volatilization in corn crop. The fertilizers were applied at 25 and 36 days after planting. The treatments, arranged in randomized complete block design, were: (i) control, (ii) urea, […]
