Sewage sludge has been used in agriculture in many crops as an alternative to reduce environmental impacts and water pollution. Nonetheless there is a need to adjust rates and timing for each crop. Therefore, the effects of sludge application on earliness and heart-of-palm yield were studied in peach palm in a field experiment carried out in Ubatuba, SP, Brazil. Four annual nitrogen rates, (0, 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 times the recommended amounts for the crop) were tested in a complete block […]

The effects of sewage sludge doses on the root system of peach palm were studied in a field experiment, in randomized complete blocks, carried out in Ubatuba, state of São Paulo, Brazil. The trial was set up in July 2001, with a density of 5,000 plants ha-1. The sewage sludge doses (79.7 % water content) were 0, 38, 76, and 152 t ha-1, which were equivalent to doses of 0, 100, 200, and 400 kg ha-1 of N. The treatments were applied in the planting furrow, and […]

Acid phosphatase activity was evaluated in leaf extracts of four year old peach palms (Bactris gasipaes Kunth) in January, 1995. Plants from four progenies were field-grown under the combination of two levels of phosphorus (P1 = 0 and P2 = 200 kg ha-1 year-1 of P2O5) and two levels of nitrogen (N1 = 0 and N2 = 400 kg ha-1 year-1 of N). Potassium was applied at a rate of 200 kg ha-1 year-1 of K2O. The results of acid […]
