Physical, chemical and mineralogical characteristics of soils from the meadows of Sousa (Paraíba State – Brazil) were studied, as well as the effect of alkaline and alkaline-earthy cations on humic substance stability. Sand, silt and clay fraction mineralogy as well as the weathering processes of two soils with excess of sodium (SPL and SS) were studied in the state of Ceará, Brazil.
