The editorial team of the Revista Brasileira de Ciência do Solo, and the authors who publish in the magazine, must adhere the Sex and Gender Equity in Research – SAGER guidelines to report sex and gender information in study design, data analysis, and results and interpretation of findings. Furthermore, the RBCS observes the gender equity policy in the formation of its editorial board.
RBCS recognizes the importance of valuing diversity and, in all stages of processing, evaluating, and disseminating scientific research, adopts and encourages editors, authors, reviewers and other members of the editorial team to transmit respect to all people through adoption of inclusive language that promotes equal opportunities. The material processed by the periodical must not promote mentions that place a group in a superior position due to their age group, sex, race, ethnicity, culture, sexual orientation, disability or health condition. Communication at all stages of publishing must be free from prejudices, stereotypes, slang, references to dominant cultures and assumptions about ideal cultural standards.
When writing, it is recommended to seek gender neutrality and avoid the use of adjectives that refer to the description of personal characteristics (age, sex, race, ethnicity, culture, sexual orientation, disability, or health condition). Use is justified only if it is relevant and valid for the accurate information of the research. Expressions that, due to their ambiguous nature, are exclusionary and offensive, should be avoided, such as: slave, black list, white list, etc. These guidelines are a starting point to assist the editorial team and authors in using appropriate language, however, they do not exhaust the full scope of the topic.
